The University declares its commitment to continue its activities, according to the 1988 Magna Charta and to adhere to the principles, values and responsibilities enshrined in the 2020 updated Magna Charta for prosperity and education around the world. One of the first principles of the Magna Charta is independence, which aims to ensure that research and teaching are intellectually and morally independent of all political influence and economic interests. The second principle states that research and teaching should be inseparable, with students engaged in the search for knowledge and greater understanding. The third principle indicates that the University is a place that should be an open space for research and discussion, distinguished by its openness to dialogue and rejection of intolerance. Mykolas Romeris University is committed to implementing all the principles and provisions of the Magna Charta and aims for the involvement of the entire University community in the development of a more sustainable world.
The Magna Charta Universitatum is a document that was originally signed by 388 rectors and heads of universities from all over Europe on September 18th, 1988, the 900th anniversary of the University of Bologna.
It contains principles of academic freedom and institutional autonomy as a guideline for good governance and self-understanding of universities in the future.
