Vytautas Magnus University is a public university in Kaunas, Lithuania. It was founded in 1922. VMU is a comprehensive university devoted to excellence in teaching, learning, research, arts and innovation and one of the few in the region where a wide liberal arts education is imparted.
The Rector of VMU is responsible for the level of higher education, research, cultural and artistic activities provided as well as fosters the values of the University. He is also responsible for ensuring that the activities of the University comply with laws, the University Statute and other legal acts, issues orders and encourages employees and students. Moreover, he is responsible for the financial activities of the University, proper management as well as the use and disposal of property and addresses other issues.
An Applicant wishing to participate in the elections must submit documents certifying the degree in science or acknowledgement of the artist, teaching and managerial experience, Curriculum Vitae and a five-year programme concept in the office of Rector. The Declaration of Impeccable Repute and Conflict of Interest Statement of an Applicant as well as other documents that the Applicant considers appropriate to submit to the Competition to fill the position of Rector must be submitted. The application documents can be submitted in person at the University or sent by email or registered mail.
The list of Candidates will be published on the VMU website on 28 August. On 2 September, an open session of VMU Senate is scheduled for members of the Senate to meet Candidates for the Rectorship to discuss their suitability for the office of Rector. A week later, on 10 September, the Candidates shall meet members of the VMU Council and the community of the University.
The election of Rector will take place in the session of VMU Council on Tuesday, 15 September. The community of the University and other institutions are informed about the results of the elections on 16 September. The term of office of the elected Rector shall begin on 1 October.
