Parents soon turned to social media to express their anger over the inability to log onto several education systems.
Armante Raginyte, spokeswoman for the Sviesa publishing house which operated one of the systems, Eduka, told the number of those willing to log onto the system rose significantly on Monday morning, leading to the system's crash, despite two weeks of preparations.
"We did two weeks of preparatory work and the system worked smoothly until yesterday night. We saw drastic increases in flows which the technology failed to withstand, despite all preparations," she said.
The problem is now being solved as server capacity is being increased, Raginyte said.
Schools had two weeks of official holidays up until now due to the quarantine introduced in Lithuania, and remote schooling started on Monday.
