According to economist, it would reflect the real situation in higher education and would help to change the current practices when education is oriented towards quantity but not quality.
"We are proud that over 90% of citizens have secondary or higher education. We are proud of the figures of the higher education, yet they do not always reveal the competences students acquire and their relevance. When we begin analyzing what students with degree do, we see that there is a high rate of unemployment, very often students do not practice their profession, and very often students with master degree receive lower salaries than a specialist, who has finished a vocational school. It is an imbalanced quality-orientated system," said Maciulis.
According to him, in this way almost anyone may enter and graduate from a university, yet only several students are competitive enough to enter the labour market and such situation makes an impact on future economic growth in Lithuania.
