On the one hand, the Government's report for 2013 highlights the problem of youth unemployment, while on the other hand, heads of successful companies in Lithuania complain about the shortage of skilled workers.
"Very often in a city or a town there is a vocational training centre and several very successful enterprises, which seem to work very well together. However, during the meetings, the heads of enterprises claim there is a shortage of installers, millers, while the local vocational training does not prepare them irrespectively of great demand and high salaries," noted MP Degutiene.
Therefore, Degutiene asks the minister about the measures that have been taken by the Ministry of Education and Science to tackle this issue and to motivate young people to choose vocations that are in demand. The deputy parliament speaker is also interested if there is enough cooperation in this area between the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Social Security and Labour, and the Ministry of Economy.
According to her, when preparing employees in vocational training schools, it is necessary to take into consideration the needs of the region and municipalities, in addition, vocational schools should cooperate with local employers.
