Only candidates with an impeccable reputation holding a Ph.D. in science or arts, or acknowledged artists with proven pedagogical and managerial experience can participate in this election. The candidate’s experience should reveal that he/she comprehends university’s mission, upholds its values, is motivated to take care of the quality of the university and has knowledge, experience, and skills needed to hold the office. The candidate may also be a person from outside the university’s community and may only nominate his or her candidacy himself/herself.
Once the candidate’s registration is over, Vilnius University Senate will consider all applications and present conclusions about the candidate’s suitability for this position to the Council. Confirmed candidates will present themselves to the university community in a public debate. Rector will be elected during the secret voting by the Council of Vilnius University. Forthcoming Rector’s five-year term will start on the 1st of April, 2020.
The Rectors’ official salary will be 9000 euros. The amount is determined under the principles of salary appointment and replacement in proportion with the average salary of professor, appointed by Vilnius University Council.
