The latest ranking results show that Vilnius Gediminas Technical University continues to grow strong and gains wider recognition in Engineering – Civil and Structural subject group. For the first time, a Lithuanian university is among the top 100 best universities in the world and ranks in 51-100 place. VGTU is the only university in Lithuania to reach such a high position in the ranking and such exceptional recognition in construction engineering subject group.
In the subject area of Engineering and Technology VGTU ranks at 256 place. This year the university is ranked in three new subject groups in this subject area: Computer Science and Information Systems 451-500 place, Engineering – Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing 301-350 place, and Engineering – Electrical and Electronic 351-400 place.
In addition, VGTU stays strong in Architecture subject group (Arts and Humanities subject area) for several consecutive years, and ranks at 101-150 place. Compared with the last year, the biggest change is in the Business and Management studies. VGTU moved up by 100 positions and now is ranked at 101-150 place (201-250 place in 2018). The biggest last year’s change in subjects of Economics & Econometrics remains at the same ranking place – 201-250. In the Social sciences and management subject area VGTU is at 276 place.
“The latest ranking results show VGTU’s huge leap upwards in the Engineering and Technology subject area. Market trends show the growing importance of social sciences; thus, it is not surprising that VGTU’s results in this area of ranking is also improving, as the university works a lot on building the synergy between the social and technical sciences. We are very proud of our achievements this year. The ranking results prove that the university is dedicated to its ambitious goals, adheres to high academic standards and continues to build a modern and innovative institution with core competences in technologies. It shows that VGTU meets the needs of students, employees, business and society,” VGTU Rector Prof. Dr. Alfonsas Daniūnas comments on the results of the rankings.
Other Lithuanian higher education institutions are also present in the ranking. Vilnius University (VU) is listed in the rankings under the subject areas of Linguistics (201–250 place), Physics and Astronomy (251-300 place), Accounting and Finance (251-300 place), Natural Sciences (383 place), Social Sciences and Management (384 place), Arts and Humanities (393 place). In addition, VU is ranked in the subject groups of Business and Management Studies (401-450 place), Medicine (451–500 place), and Biological Sciences (451–500 place). Also it is ranked in subject areas of Informatics and Information Systems (451–500 place), Engineering and Technology (451–500 place).
Kaunas University of Technology this year is ranked in subject group of Electronics and Electrical Engineering (401–450 place) and in the subject area of Engineering and Technology (451–500 place), and in the subject group of Business and Management Studies (451-500 place). Mykolas Riomeris University is also among the ranked universities. It is listed on 251–300 place in the Law subject group.
