"This merger is supported by the communities of the two universities. I hope the reorganization conditions that are about to reach the Seimas will allow us to make more weighted and specific decisions to ensure necessary government resources and support to ensure success of this merger," former Education and Science Minister Gintaras Steponavicius said.
Earlier, the Lithuanian parliament backed the merger of Aleksandras Stulginskis University and the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences. And in early December, lawmakers backed the government's proposal to merge Siauliai and Vilnius Universities.
There are also plans to merge the Lithuanian Sports University with the Lithuanian University of health Sciences, despite the former objecting to that.
