The Prime Minister has thanked Hirofumi Nakasone for his personal contribution to the development of the political, economic and scientific ties between Lithuania and Japan, and has expressed his conviction that bilateral relations will only grow stronger in the future.
In the meeting with Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Masahiko Shibayama the Head of State has noted that the authentic and contemporary culture of Japan is valued and appreciated in Lithuania. Japan and Lithuania enjoy strong ties between their universities: around 50 university partnerships have been created.
A Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Science and Technology has been signed. ‘Lithuania and Japan enjoy unique partnership in the field of science. Japan has become the most important partner of Lithuania in Asa and is among the major global partners in the field of science, technology and innovations. I am convinced that this Memorandum will add new impetus to the cooperation between Lithuania and Japan’, said the Prime Minister.
The Lithuanian and Japanese research institutions could also cooperate in the fields of quality ageing, artificial intelligence and robotics research. According to Prime Minister Skvernelis, it is necessary to continue develop bilateral cooperation in the fields of engineering, electronics, biotechnology, information technologies and research and development, where Japan has experience, while Lithuania shows great potential.
