Born in Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) Startup Space, Helis has grown into a serious player in Lithuanian and global market – the company specialises in a software for businesses connected with computer games and electronic sports. The company, which currently employs over a hundred people, soon will be launching a platform for distributing new generation computer games.
“Helis is always looking for professional programmers, product developers, international marketing specialists, designers, user experience experts, payment and security experts and business development professionals with expertise in the gaming sector. It is not always easy to find them in Lithuania. Also, as the company plans to launch the new gaming platform in cooperation with the partners in South Korea and possibly in China, we need specialists, who understand markets outside of Lithuania”, says Vytis Uogintas, Co-Founder and CEO at Helis, KTU alumni.
Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Daniel Postiga was first approached by Helis executives while he was working in Warsaw, Poland.
“When they offered me to move to Kaunas for work, I said no. I did not have a slightest wish to live in Lithuania, a country that I didn’t know at all”, says Daniel.
However, the first impressions were corrected by open and sincere approach of Helis – after coming to Kaunas, Daniel saw a contemporary office full of young, enthusiastic people, everyone spoke good English.
“I’ve never regretted the decision to move to Kaunas – I work with extremely talented people, open to new ideas, boldly testing innovations. We live in a comfortable city which satisfies all our needs. Even my wife says that there are all conditions for living a quality life and for creating a family”, says Postiga, who is now leading Helis marketing team.
According to Uogintas, the creation of a complex, large-scale product requires competencies, experience and connections in the industry of development and distribution of computer games, and the talents are not always found in Lithuania. However, he says that attracting talented people from abroad is relatively challenging.
“We are sure that in many aspects the quality of life here is equal to such countries as Sweden or Switzerland, and there are plenty of international career opportunities. But we have to be about a hundred times more persuasive in order to convince our prospective employees”, says Uogintas.
However, he is sure that the situation will change – Lithuania is already known for its highly qualified professionals, achievements in IT, and high technologies.
“Being a part of the Kaunas Startup Development Incubator “KTU StartupSpace” alumni, and having felt a strong support from the University and the city during the first years of our company, we can confirm that due to its strong and abundant academic community and technical competence, Kaunas is extremely promising to develop both startups and mature technology-based businesses”, says Vytis Uogintas, Co-founder and CEO at Helis.
