According to the Prime Minister, the initiative, which was launched six years ago, to organise an international life sciences event, revealing the potential of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, has gained momentum, as did life sciences in Lithuania. The life sciences sector is among the fastest growing branches of industry in Lithuania.
“The discoveries of our scientists make Lithuania famous around the globe. Their ideas and accomplishments transform our understanding of the world. The work of Lithuanian scientists is opening up a path to the treatment of the most complicated genetic diseases, which will save many lives”, said Saulius Skvernelis.
The Prime Minister stressed that Lithuanian life sciences have always been a priority of the Government. The goal is to strengthen the links between business and science and to help scientists and health care professionals to turn ideas into products generating high added-value and providing a basis for innovative enterprises. It was emphasized that for more than half a year a large team of life science experts has been developing guidelines for the development of the Lithuanian life sciences industry. Just a week ago, the Government approved them. The Guidelines will serve as a framework for the formulation of a long-term strategy for the development of science, technologies and innovation.
