Lectures, discussions, informal get-togethers, tours to Vilnius and to the old capital of Lithuania, Trakai are among the highlights of the 7-day greeting event. The organisers, KTU Department of International Relations, with the help of volunteers will aim to make the start of the new academic year for the international “freshers” as smooth as possible.
The new students will be invited to participate in introductory lectures on University life, will be able to matriculate and to form their papers for receiving the main student document – student card, will get to know student organisations and KTU campus locations. Lithuanian dance and language lessons are among the all-time favourites of the Welcome Week.
Guest speaker of the event this year is Viktoras Diawara, famous Lithuanian producer and musician of Malian descent, who will talk on peculiarities of living in Lithuania as a foreigner.
Around 400 new students are expected to come to KTU this autumn for their degree and exchange studies.
“As in previous years, the largest group of students is coming from India. Also, we have a lot of students from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, there are students coming from Ukraine, Lebanon, Georgia, Iran, Morocco, Pakistan, Nigeria”, says Ieva Januškevičiūtė, International Studies Projects Manager.
This year KTU will be joined by Bangladeshi, Cameroonian, Ecuadorian, Chinese, Mexican students; Romania, Serbia, Palestine, Tajikistan, UAE, UK, Vietnam add to the colourful geography of KTU student community.
