Striving that the historical event of the first Lithuanian space mission is reported nationally, television station TV3 will share its TV signal with other media channels. The launch will be broadcast live by the national television.
At first, the launch was scheduled in late December. However, it was cancelled due to malfunction in the cooling system of the ISS, astronauts had to perform a spacewalk for repairs.
According to Orbital, on Monday the company together with NASA will finally choose the launch day.
If Wednesday is selected, the rocket will be launched at approximately 8.35 p.m. Lithuanian time and if Thursday – at 8.10 p.m. Each day there is a mere 5 minute time gap for the launch, which is calculated depending on the ISS position in the orbit.
If the launch is on Wednesday, Cygnus spacecraft will dock to the ISS with the 38th astronaut expedition on board on Sunday, 12 January, around 1 p.m. Lithuanian time.
It is projected that Lithuanian satellites will leave the ISS for the orbit in February. Then satellite LitSat-1, assembled by Kaunas University of Technology with the assistance of the Lithuanian Space Association, will transmit the three words voted in by the nation.
