Vilnius University was ranked in three out of five broad subject areas: Arts & Humanities (401–450 position), Social Sciences & Management (451–500 position) and Natural Sciences, where VU improved its ranking by 50 spots and now takes up the 400th position.
Vilnius University was rated exceptionally well in the subject of Linguistics, where it is now placed in 151–200 position after improving its ranking by 50 points, compared to last year.
“Strengthening of our international positions is our strategic priority. It ensures our appeal to international researchers and helps to attract more foreign students, which creates a multicultural environment in Vilnius University. I am especially pleased with the evaluation of our Linguistic studies – it is obvious, that they meet the highest international standard. We hope that improvement of working conditions of our lecturers and researchers will help us to strengthen our positions even more” – said VU rector Artūras Žukauskas.
This year Vilnius University succeeded in the broad subject area of Natural sciences, receiving 74 points out of 100 in h-index, which measures productivity and impact of published scientific works. This indicator was particularly high in Physics and Astronomy: 76,4 points out of 100.
A large part of the “QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018“ is employer reputation. VU linguistics, engineering, IT, finance & accounting, business, and politics students and alumni received high scores in this indicator.
