Shiller shared his memories about the Lithuanian origin of his family and his childhood spent in the Lithuanian community. The famous economist also was interested in Lithuanian realities, economic situation in the country, its reforms, the Presidency of the EU Council.
Lithuanian Ambassador to the United States Zygimantas Povilionis handed Shiller a congratulatory message from Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevicius as well as minister's invitation to visit Lithuania.

Shiller is one out of many Lithuanian Americans, whose parents emigrated prior to the restoration of Lithuania's independence in 1918. His grandfather, Ignas Szileris, arrived in the U.S. in 1908.
