During the Congress, 500 researchers from 5 continents will share their experiences and insights, and will be creating new networks and practices.
The 13th World Congress of Semiotics is the first event of this kind in the Baltics. The lectures and workshops in the congress will be delivered by the researchers from Brazil, Italy, Austria, France, South Korea, Finland, Canada and other countries. The largest number of participants will be from Lithuania.
Those participating in the Congress will have a chance to listen to the personalities, who are important not only to the field of semiotics, but also to development science in general. On Monday, at KTU Centre for Culture and Events, Basarab Nicolescu will deliver a paper Transdisciplinarity as Solution to the Challenges of Contemporary World, and Birutė Galdikas will talk about interspecific understanding on Wednesday.
“Birutė Galdikas, who is breaking all the stereotypes of communication between humans and animals is a historical figure, great authority for all semioticians. Basarab Nicolescu, who is an expert in multidisciplinary, intercultural and multimodal communication are very important for the participants of the Congress”, says Professor Dario Martinelli, Director of the International Semiotics Institute (ISI) at KTU.
However, the events mentioned represent only a part of the Congress, which is taking place at KTU Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts. Every day plenary sessions, at some cases, as many as twelve of them, on various topics will take place. Also, the participants will be invited to a book exhibition, scientific magazines’ fair, and will experience a couple of surprises, which are yet to be revealed by the organisers.
The multicultural event, which focuses on cross-inter-multi-trans cultural communication and research is taking special care in protecting the nature and expressing the Green University values.
“The participants will be served only vegan food, there will be no usage of plastic plates or cutlery. We will do our best to use local products and to stay socially responsible”, says Martinelli.
The 13th World Congress of Semiotics is taking place at KTU Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts and various locations across the campus and the city on 26–30 of June.
