According to the President, this agreement is of exceptional importance for Lithuania’s progress. The agreement for associate membership at CERN will open up new opportunities for our science and business to benefit from experience and participate in global scientific experiments of CERN – the largest research organization in the world.
The President has continually encouraged Lithuania’s cooperation with CERN. In the beginning of last year, the President visited CERN and met with Director-General Fabiola Gianotti to discuss the future membership of Lithuania.
Lithuanian scientists, universities and laser manufacturers began cooperation with CERN a quarter of a century ago. In 2004, an agreement was signed for the participation of Lithuanian institutions in CERN high-energy physics experiments.
CERN Director-General Fabiola Gianotti comes to Lithuania to sign the associate membership agreement. The signing ceremony will be held at the Presidential Palace.
CERN has 22 members and four associate members. Tomorrow, Lithuania will become the fifth associate member of CERN.
