Luiza Sevele and Hicham Hazim, studying architecture at KTU, currently are on study exchange at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain (Universitat Politecnica de Valencia).
"The first impression of Valencia is amazing! It’s a perfect combination between history and modernity!“, says Hicham. He notes that Valencia is a great touristic destination because of the amazing long beach and historical old city.
“Spain is a country that has so much to explore and see. From Valencia it is easy to travel Spain and Europe, you can get around with bus or train”, says Luiza.
She believes that although Valencia might seem to be overshadowed by Madrid and Barcelona, it has everything a student could possibly want.
“From the historical centre and beautiful beaches to futuristic architecture, parties and lots more. In Valencia everything is nearby – a short bike ride from the university will bring you to the fascinating old city centre which is filled with cathedrals, towers, and plazas. Futuristic buildings designed by the famous architect Santiago Calatrava are just a few minutes ride from city’s centre and nine kilometres long park that runs through the city brings people together for different activities, sports, meetings and resting during Spanish siesta”, added Luiza.
When talking about Polytechnic University of Valencia, Luiza notes that it is the largest university in Valencia, which it is known as a school for technical courses.
“Studying here is a great experience! Knowing that it is one of the best universities in Spain and that great architects such as Santiago Calatrava studied here, increases the motivation”, says Hicham.
He says that the classes, where students were asked to carry out group projects were the most useful as they provided great opportunity to learn from different students around the world: Mexico, Australia, and South America.
According to the students, the university campus is an attractive space with plenty of places for studying, after school activities, different sports, shops, cafeterias and lots more.
“The campus is truly wonderful with all facilities you might need – different meeting places, libraries or places for the sports activities, like football, basketball, gym, tennis, pool, etc.”, says Hicham.
Students are impressed not only by the study and life quality, but also by the friendly atmosphere and teachers’ attitude.
“I usually spend most of the time in the Faculty of Architecture. Although the study courses are in Spanish but professors are always willing to help and make sure student understands the content. Studies at UPV are quite intense but at the same time, it means that students are sure to learn and gain a lot of knowledge”, says Luiza.
She is grateful to have had the opportunity to use Erasmus+ study exchange programme: “It helps every student to meet new people from all around the world, which has allowed me not only learn about Spain but many other countries. People met during the mobility are going to make the experience brighter, more exciting and more memorable”.
