According to this ranking, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) is the best technical university and the second among all universities in Lithuania in terms of competitiveness on the international arena. It is a very important criterion, because as Valdas Jaskūnas member of the board at the Association of Lithuanian Higher Education Institutions for Common Admission (LAMA BPO) says, nowadays, universities no longer compete nationally, but only on an international level. “We should discuss the competitiveness of Lithuanian higher education institutions not only in Lithuania, but in global market as well. The latest decades of competition within Lithuania have distracted us from the global trends. Universities are no longer national players, it is an international league,” says V. Jaskūnas during press conference on the latest issue of magazine Reitingai.
Similar to last year, VGTU showed good results in value added created by the University’s alumni and good evaluation from the employers. In this category VGTU ranks third among all universities.
In the total ranking, VGTU and VDU share the 4-5th places among all universities in Lithuania. Last year, VGTU was ranked as the 5th higher education institution in Lithuania.
Magazine Reitingai assesses universities according to 65 sub-criteria, which are divided into 7 major criteria: research, artistic and sports activities, including staff achievements, current and future academic staff, value added created by alumni, employers’ assessment, competitiveness on the international arena, students and studies, study and research environment, and students’ assessment of their educational institution.
