Even though the new institution has just made its first steps, the institute's Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sigitas Kamandulis is sure that it is important not only for the university but the whole society.
19-20 scientists will work in the institute focusing on sports and health. LSU has equipment sufficient to conduct objective research. Therefore, each scientist has a goal to increase the number of scientific publications in ISI Web of Science databases and carry out as much quality research as possible.
According to the director, the research has to be attractive for the business and society. The first steps will be to promote cooperation with international scientific community as well as work with Lithuanian partners.
Kamandulis said that currently LSU scientists are cooperating with business on the modern orthopaedic and rehabilitation means cluster. They are working with specialists from 10 companies on a knee brace with ultrasound, heating/cooling, electronic stimulation and laser technologies. Such device would help people recover from knee injuries. LSU scientists are constantly conducting research on commissioned by various companies or sports clubs.
