The Lithuanian universities have been evaluated in 6 subject areas, and only VGTU has been ranked in 4 of them. Similar to last year, in Engineering – Civil & Structural subject group VGTU ranks at 101-150 place, and is the only university in the Baltic States at such a high position in the area of Civil Engineering sciences. In the subject of Architecture / Built Environment VGTU also stands at 101-150 place. In addition to this, the university is also ranked in Business & Management Studies (201-250 place), and in subjects of Economics & Econometrics (301–350 place) among top world universities. These results are the best in Lithuania. This year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject feature a record 46 subjects. VGTU has been evaluated in 20 subjects, and in 10 of them ranks the highest in Lithuania.
“For a long time, VGTU has been known as a leading university in the subjects of Civil & Structural Engineering and Architecture / Built Environment, but this year’s breakthrough in social sciences is another big achievement for VGTU. We follow global trends and believe that technical university must be excellent not only in technologies, but in social sciences as well. Social sciences at VGTU are also based on technologies. It makes VGTU a unique institution, and it was evaluated positively on this international ranking,” sais VGTU Rector Prof. Dr. Alfonsas Daniūnas.
To compile the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017 a total of 46 subject areas were evaluated. The screening process covered 4,438 universities, and only 1,117 higher education institutions have been ranked. The criteria for evaluation covered reputation among academics, reputation among employers, and citations attributions. Different from other rankings, this one does not take into account data provided by the universities themselves. Only external data sources and databases of scientific publications are used.
