Are there examples of new, networked “aesthetics of dissent” that have been effectively deployed in glocal circumstances? What are models worth working toward? How might the concept of “the protest city” engender new practices and outlooks on means for urban democratic engagement? Addressing topics of the communication sphere, the future of urbanism, urban spaces and coproduction, critical preservation, and participatory design, the workshop aims to widen theoretical and practical knowledge of public participation with new ideas about how the use of technology and aesthetics can be incorporated into the building of civic space. Participants include Sasha Costanza-Chock, Jodi Dean, Ed Carroll and Vita Gelūnienė, Ilona Jurkonytė, Doina Petrescu, Marina Teresa Otero Verzier, and others. Moderated by Viktorija Rusinaitė.
The event is part of Congress on Public Spaces. Congress on Public Spaces is a series of three interdisciplinary events dedicated to exploring changes in democratic participation. It takes place in Kaunas and Vilnius from the 29th of September to the 1st of October, 2016.
