Two Lithuanian universities are among the top 50: Vilnius University is 21st (down by two positions from the last year) and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) is 43rd (up by two positions from the last year). Kaunas University of Technology is 51st (down by one position from the last year).

The "QS World University Rankings: Emerging Europe and Central Asia 2016" ranked higher education institutions according to their reputation among academics (30%) and employers (20%), as well as student-professor ratio (15%), number of research publications in Scopus database (10%), website impact (10%), citation rates (5%), proportion of staff with doctoral degree (5%), proportion of international staff (2,5%), and proportion of international students (2,5%).
In March 2016, VGTU was announced to be the best university from the Baltic countries in Civil & Structural Engineering and ranked among Top 51-101 in the world by „QS World University Rankings by Subject“. According to overall „QS World University Rankings“ ranking VGTU falls among 4% best universities worldwide, being in a 701+ category. While for the academic and employer reputation VGTU is listed in the 401+ category.
