The Minister's of Education and Science Dainius Pavalkis regulation, under which the graduates of national minorities' schools would have had facilitated Lithuanian language exams, was challenged by the members of opposition.
The decision is final and does not belong to the appellation, but, nevertheless, the Minister's Pavalkis regulation will be in power for another one year. There still is a chance that during this time an existing version of the Education Act will be replaced by the old version of it which existed without interference with other regulations during the whole period of independence. Such initiative was approved last year by the Members' of Seimas.
Regrettably, the courts are being included in political disputes and are forced into making decisions that are not directly related to their work.
We emphasise once more, that essentially Lithuanian language's and literature's graduation exam can not be unified as the native language will always remain a native, and another language, despite the immense importance, will always remain just a learned language.
By his nature, a man can not have two native languages. It is obvious, that the new version of the Education Act needs to be changed back to the old version. We hope that it will be so soon.
