“Your support and your long and considerable experience in coordinating the EHU’s Trust Fund is of particular significance to the University. Even though the Nordic Council of Ministers has not allocated financial support to the University this year, we hope your experience will not be wasted and the Nordic Council of Ministers will continue contributing to the project which is essential for the whole region”, Mr Minister said.
“Almost 1500 Belarusians have received higher education, underpinned by European values, in Lithuania during the decade of EHU activities in Vilnius. That is our consistent and the best investment into mutual understanding and strengthening of relations between Europe and Belarus”, Linas Linkevičius pointed out.
The revision of the NCM budget resulted in the decision of 11 May 2016 not to allocate funds to EHU this year. Despite this, support from international donors will continue, with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency assuming the role of the Trust Fund Coordinator.
At the high level EHU donor conference which took place in Vilnius on 10 March 2016, the representatives of the European Commission, the governments of Nordic countries and of other EU Member States, and private funds from the US and Europe reiterated their continued financial support for the University and underlined the latter’s significance as EHU is an exceptional project of transatlantic support for democracy in the context of current geopolitical developments in Eastern Europe.
