"Thanks to our University's long years of continuous efforts and gained experience, for the second time VGTU has received the highest rankings by subject. Engineering - Civil & Structural – is one of the scientific research priority areas of our university, in which VGTU has been on the leading position among the Baltic countries for a long time already. We are seeking to become the leading university in the region, as well as in the world" - said Alfonsas Daniūnas, VGTU Rector.
This year QS World Rankings by Subject featured a record-breaking forty-two subject tables, i.e. this year they added six subjects to the list: anthropology, archaeology, mining engineering, nursing, performing arts and social policy. The rankings estimated more than 4226 universities, but only 945 higher education institutions entered the top list.
The "QS World University Rankings by Subject" ranked the institutions of higher education according to their reputation among academics (50 per cent) and employers (30 per cent), as well as the indicators in research citations (20 per cent). The promoters of the ranking are assessing the subjects differently because of their own specifics. For example, the number of scientific articles in the areas of nature and social sciences is higher as compared with those in social, arts or humanitarian sciences. Similarly, employers rank the graduates of economics and philosophy in a different way, and so on. We would like to note, that in contrast to some others, „QS World University Rankings by Subject" does not take into account the data from higher education institutions, which is more objective for the comparison of universities and their programs.
We would also like to remind you, that last year they ranked VGTU the best for Civil and Structural Engineering, ranking our university from 101st to 150th place among the best world universities. Previously, no universities from Lithuania have entered the top list.
