Ventspils University College spokeswoman Agnese Jekabsone said that Indian rocket PSLV is expected to place "Venta-1" into orbit sometime in the second quarter of 2016, but that the launch date has yet to be confirmed as it depends on the readiness of the launch vehicle.
The signing of the agreement between the German university and Ventspils University College concludes a period of serious work which involved talks with the project's partner on the terms of the satellite's launch and on the satellite's frequency bands.
"Venta-1" will be circling Earth in an orbit crossing Latvian territory which will allow receiving data from the satellite and send it command signals while the satellite is over Latvia. Communications with "Venta-1" will be maintained from a command center situated at a Ventspils University College building in the northwestern Latvian city of Ventspils.
