Through Parliament's website and social media channels, people were invited to send in their submissions. Everyone had the opportunity to vote for their favourite photo every month and the photographer who took the most popular photo overall became the public vote winner, a while a jury also selected their winner. Both winners were invited to Strasbourg to create a photo reportage, where they also met with Irish EPP member Mairead McGuinness, the vice-president responsible for communication. The best photos are now being exhibited on the Parliament grounds in Strasbourg until January.
The experience proved to be an eventful one for the two contest winners. Jury prize winner Éva Szabó said: "I enjoyed the visit of the Parliament in Strasbourg a lot. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see my photo among the best ones in a beautiful exhibition inside the Parliament's building. It was an honour to see and take photos of the members' work in the plenary chamber. The building of the Parliament - though resembling a labyrinth at times - is fascinating. Public prize winner Rosabella De Angelis added: "Dynamic! Energetic! Movement! Three elements that characterised the two days spent in the European Parliament, filled with unique moments. Between the visit inside, along the many labyrinthine corridors, the hemicycle and the visit outside around the building the experience was fantastic." Check out her photos on Flickr.
