November 14th is The World's Global Day of Coderetreat Day. The idea of the event was born back in 2009 in the USA, and in two years it reached Lithuania. This year the event took place simultaneously in 142 cities around the world, and its participants in groups intensely worked not only on programming but also on program design skills.
The Employer Encourages Self-Realisation
This is the third Coderetreat event this year, which is supported by the US healthcare technology and services company Intermedix Lithuania. Thanks to the initiative of the company's employees the event expanded: last time it was held in Intermedix Office in Kaunas, and on Saturday it moved to Kaunas Technological University (KTU) business incubator StartupSpace.
Coderetreat is based on the manifesto of programmers ideas: to create high-quality code, to keep improving and increasing the value added.
One of the event organisers' Intermedix Lithuania Developer Adomas Greicius is grateful, that his company encourages the realisation of its employee's ideas.
"The format of the event has already proven its worth – it helps improve programming skills. The experience gained here, such as learning to write different tests, programming without a mouse can be applied at work. These challenges make you work a little different than you are used to and make everything better", says Intermedix Lithuania programmer.
Investing in Higher Education
At the event all programmers work in pairs and share with each other not only experience, but also different ways of thinking.
"In order to become a good programmer, you need to keep improving. Coderetreat Day provides perfect opportunity for this", says Greicius.
The event was organised by Greicius together with like-minded developers Vaidas Pilkauskas, Simonas Pinevičius and Tomas Proscevičius.
US healthcare technology and services company Intermedix Lithuania started its operations in 2013. Having started with 20 employees, today the company has grown to nearly 600. It is developing fast – currently Kaunas-based office is searching for several dozen professionals in various fields. It is planned that in the coming year the company will have 750 employees.
Intermedix Lithuania continuously supports not only its employees initiatives, but also cooperates with higher education institutions, thus contributing to the improvement of the quality of higher education. This year Intermedix opened one of the largest specialized laboratories in Lithuania, in which the company invested 100 thousand euros at KTU's Santaka Valley.
