Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė has awarded 260 scholarships to students enrolled in state-funded STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) study programmes. This year, scholarships were awarded to students from nine regional higher education institutions.

At a meeting on Monday, the Cabinet of Ministers approved adding new investments to the plan "New Generation Lithuania", which received a positive assessment by the European Commission (EC), and its submission to the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) for approval. After the endorsement by the EC, the modification of the Plan is planned to be finally approved by the Council by the end of this year.

On Tuesday, Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė submited to the Seimas for consideration two amendments to draft laws aimed at improving Lithuania's investment climate. One of them is to establish new criteria for large projects and, based on them, to apply corporate tax relief and other special investment and business conditions.

The Government has approved a proposal by the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation to restore the territory of the Kaunas Free Economic Zone (FEZ) as previously envisaged.

The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation announces a second call for the digitalisation of public sector services, worth around €19 million. The first call already selected 55 projects from public authorities, state-owned companies and municipalities for €95 million.

Plug and Play, a US-based startup accelerator, has officially presented its acceleration program and plans in Lithuania, following an agreement with the Ministry of Economy and Innovation. According to the agreement, the renowned Silicon Valley accelerator will help 60 innovative companies in Lithuania over almost 3 years.

Following the European Commission’s approval of the support scheme for offshore wind farm development, and after public consultations with market participants, the Ministry of Energy proposes to launch the second offshore wind farm tender on 15 January 2024. The proposal by the Ministry of Energy still needs to be approved by the Government.

In the third quarter of this year, the aviation indicators of Lithuanian Airports continued to improve, and in September alone the company handled almost 8.5% more passengers than in the same month last year. The results of the third quarter of this year show that passenger traffic at Lithuanian airports was 5% higher (compared to the same quarter of 2022) and 4% more flights were handled.
