Deputy Environment Minister Daiva Matoniene said that EUR 10.1 million of government assistance has been paid out so far in 2015.
However, an additional financial injection was needed because renovation work has become particularly active at the end of the year.
"We did forecast that renovation may reach such vast extent, but out projections were deemed overly optimistic. The renovation of old blocks of flats is becoming an important factor in the country's life. When the need for extra funding arose, we found a solution together with the Ministry of Finance," the deputy minister said.
According to the Housing Energy Efficiency Agency (BETA), which is overseeing the modernisation programme of the blocks of flats, 1,221 residential buildings are undergoing renovation in Lithuania.
