At the end of June, the top thirty insurers employed 119,300 persons, or 8.7% of the total 1.36 million insured persons for which state social insurance contributions had to be paid.
Retail trade and transportation companies as well as higher education establishments and healthcare institutions stood out as the biggest employers.
In the first half of 2015, state social insurance contributions paid by the top thirty insurers amounted to EUR 190.6 million. This is 13.4% of the total of EUR 1.413 billion contributions paid in the first half of 2015.
Most companies that pay the biggest amount of contributions also have the highest number of employees, although there are come exceptions. For example, service centres of foreign companies and all major banks are among the biggest contributors, but they are not on the list of the top thirty biggest employers. This means that they employ less people but pay higher average wages.
