Latvia's energy sector is also interested in acquiring liquefied gas from Lithuania. Latvia's state energy company Latvenergo announced about its intentions to buy LNG from Lithuania for the first time already this year.
If Litgas offered an attractive and cost-based price, next year Latvenergo would purchase more LNG from Lithuania.
According to Dominykas Tuckus, general manager of Litgas, the company is now analysing the gas infrastructure access rules in Latvia, since the documents were provided to Litgas in the Latvian language. Only then it will be decided on the possibilities for Latvian consumers to buy gas from Lithuania.
A representative of Latvenergo, meanwhile, confirms their company's desire to buy a large amount of LNG from Lithuania if the gas price was cost-based. Litgas' head Tuckus says that this year his company is planning to sell up to 30 million cubic metres of natural gas to companies in Estonia too. "So far, only regulated energy producers of Lithuania were buying all the LNG imported via the LNG terminal," Tuckus said.
