The analysis of losses resulting from storms in 2005-2014 shows that the top ten places affected by natural disasters include Klaipeda and Prienai districts, Kaunas city and district, Varena district, Klaipeda city, Utena, Siauliai, Panevezys and Siauliai districts.
Payouts for damages caused by storms in these areas have amounted to EUR 1.8 million in ten years, or 45% of damages recorded in Lithuania, which have totalled EUR 4 million since 2004.
Storms cause the most harm during the summer season, the number of insurable events increases by around 4-5 times then. Summer storms, squalls and hurricanes mostly affect residential buildings – they tear down roofs, damage exterior finishing and chimneys.
