Daiva Matoniene, Chairwoman of the Commission, told the daily Verslo Zinios that plenty of conditions have been introduced. According to her, environmental protection part was considerably tightened after visiting Poland, where shale exploration is already taking place.
An investor in shale exploration first of all will have to take care of the infrastructure in the prospected region.
The US energy giant Chevron was the sole participant of shale oil and gas exploration and extraction tender in Silute-Taurage area in 2012. In early 2013, the company was declared the winner of the tender.
However, in the autumn of 2013 Chevron withdrew from Lithuania claiming that "tax, legal and regulatory environment had changed considerably".
