In 2014, investment in tangible fixed assets within the territory of the country amounted to EUR 5.1 billion and, compared to 2013, grew by 5.6%. The major part of investment (56.2%) was made in the construction of buildings and civil engineering structures; such investment, compared to 2013, increased by 6.9%. Investment in machinery, equipment and vehicles made up 36.6% of total investment and, compared to 2013, grew by 1.6%. Investment in construction and acquisition of residential buildings amounted EUR 690.9 million, which is by 17.7% more than in 2013.
In 2014, the volume of construction work carried out within the country amounted to EUR 2 522.5 million; against 2013, it increased by 16.7% at constant prices. The volume of construction work carried out abroad amounted to EUR 168.3 million; against 2013, it increased by 12.4% at constant prices. In 2014, the share of construction of civil engineering structures accounted for 49.8% of the total construction work carried out within the country (EUR 1 257.4 million) and, against 2013, increased by 10.4% at constant prices; a third thereof was comprised of road and street construction and repair.
In 2014, 5 526 buildings were completed, of which 4 456 – residential buildings. In 2014, 7 859 permits were issued for the construction of residential and non-residential buildings. 5 945 permits, or 75.6% of all permits, were those for the construction of residential buildings (by 9.5% less than in 2013).
