Trade turnover of food products increased by 0.4%, non-food products by 9.5%, while plants and animals by as much as 31.3%. Trade in detergents and household chemical goods increased the most, by 31.4%, followed by electrical appliances, by 15.6%. Meanwhile, trade in tableware and household utensils decreased the most, by 30.9%, followed by audio and video equipment, including computer gaming equipment, by 12.6%. As regards food products, trade in vegetables increased the most, by 9.2%, fruit and berries by 3.8%. However, trade in other food products (fish, bakery products, honey etc.) decreased by 7.9% and eggs by 6.5%.
In the fourth quarter of 2014 compared with the third quarter of 2014, trade turnover in Lithuania's markets declined by 6.7%. Food product trade fell by 12.7%, plants and animals by 32.6%. However, trade in non-food products increased by 0.4%.
In the fourth quarter of 2014, a total of 100 markets operated in Lithuania, the number remained the same as in the fourth quarter of 2013. There were a total of 28,000 places for trading, i.e. by 1.6% more than in the fourth quarter of 2013. In the fourth quarter of 2014, the occupancy of trading places was used at 52%. It increased the most in markets of Utena and Vilnius counties, by 27.1 and 20.3% respectively. Occupancy decreased the most in markets of Telsiai and Kaunas counties, by 11.3 and 9.8% respectively.
