According to the president, the twenty-fifth year of re-independence is very significant for our state – Lithuania has achieved its goals, fulfilled the promise given when joining the European Union and today already has the euro.
"The euro is our opportunity, responsibility and freedom to grow. Today, the Lithuanian Vytis (the Chaser, an armour-clad knight on horseback holding a sword and shield – Elta) is sending a message that Lithuania stands ready to protect and defend European values as we have always done since the beginning of our statehood," she said addressing the participants.
Taking part in the event at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius were European Council President Donald Tusk, European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis, other representatives of euro area countries and EU institutions.
