It is estimated that customers of credit unions withdrew approximately EUR 43,000 from ATMs.
"Credit unions located in regions farther away from cities receive more customers, for example, Akmene, Pasvalys, Sakiai or Kedainiai," said Simona Kukyte, Head of Euro Currency Exchange Project of Lithuanian Central Credit Union (LCKU).
11 credit unions will be exchanging the litas to the euro until 1 March 2015. 52 other credit unions exchange currency based on their internal rules. A total of 75 credit unions are operating in Lithuania at present.
