Compared with the third quarter of 2013 transportation of goods via road transport increased by 12.8%, via railways by 3.8%, via internal waterways transport by 7.3%. However, transportation of goods by sea transport decreased by 12%, while by Lithuanian airline companies by 28.4%.
In the third quarter of 2014 all types of transport carried 95.6 million passengers, by 0.1% less year-on-year. 97.2% of passengers used road transportation, 1.3% travelled by railway, 1.2% by internal waterways transport, 0.2% by air transport and 0.1% by sea transport.
In January-September 2014, compared with the same period of 2013, all types of transport carried 87.6 million tonnes of goods, or by 6.2% more year-on-year. Meanwhile 313.4 million passengers were carried in the first nine months of 2014, by 5.6% more year-on-year.
In January-November 2014 the number of passengers at airports amounted to 3.5 million, by 8.9% more year-on-year. Most of the passengers travelled to or from the United Kingdom (669,800 or 18.9% of the total number of passengers), Germany (351,400 or 9.9 pct), Norway (268,800 or 7.6 pct), Italy (246,500 or 7 pct) and Denmark (191,500 or 5.4 pct). Compared with January-November 2013, the number of passengers travelling to or from Italy increased by 21.1, Norway by 5.8 pct, Germany by 0.8 pct and Denmark by 0.3 pct. However, 2% less travelled to or from the United Kingdom. 89.2% of passengers, or 3.2 million, took regular flights.
In January-November 2014 airplanes of Lithuanian airline companies carried 494,800 passengers, by 15.6% more year-on-year. Passenger turnover constituted 960.6 million passenger-kilometres and increased by 9.9% year-on-year.
In January-November 2014, 45 million tonnes of goods were transported by railway, by 2.4% more year-on-year. Of them, national carriage accounted for 13.3 million tonnes, by 5.4% less, while international carriage accounted for 31.6 million tonnes, by 6.1% more.
