The revised budget provides for an investment growth in five areas: national defence – EUR 2.9 million, public order and safety – EUR 1.4 million, science and education – EUR 1.3 million, healthcare – EUR 0.9 million, culture – EUR 0.2 million. Investment in other areas was either reduced or remained unchanged.
"Allocations for institution maintenance (management) expenses are reduced by 5 percent in the next year's budget. This will allow saving over LTL 40 million (EUR 11.6 million), yet, this money will not be enough to cover additional expenses so we will have to look into other sources," said Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius.
As reported, the 2015 budget provides for additional LTL 400 million (EUR 116 million) for national defence and LTL 180 million (EUR 52 million) to compensate pension cutbacks.
On November 25, the Seimas returned the draft budget to the Government to improve it, and on December 2, after the second reading, the Seimas approved it.
