Although calculations on price reduction have been completed but the final say is up to the National Commission for Energy Control and Prices. 20% discount on gas has been applied to heat producers since 1 May, they have to calculate heating price by 1 January.
"Based on our calculations heating price should drop by 10-20%. However, figures have to be given for every municipality separately. That is what is being done, but there can be no talk about 8-7%, because our experts have the figures," the prime minister said in an interview to the Ziniu Radijas on Thursday.
According to Butkevicius, the reduction of heating price from 1 January 2013 to 1 July 2014 will be applied since 2015. Then the liquefied natural gas terminal will be operational and Lithuanian markets the same gas price will apply to Lithuanian markets.
Commenting about speculations that VAT exemption on district heating may be revoked, the prime minister said the question was premature.
The daily Verslo Zinios reported on Thursday that the 9% exemption on heating may be lifted in the budget for 2015.
