The plan is to allocate €11.74 million to Akmenė district municipality, €8.6 million to Jonava district and €10.25 million to Mažeikiai district. This is yet another measure in the €1 billion plan for the Lithuanian economy to create more opportunities for Lithuania.
“We aim for Lithuania's biggest industrial companies to become less polluting. Given the specific nature of the large enterprises operating in Akmenė, Jonava and Mažeikiai and the potential impact on jobs as the result of their restructuring, we need to create conditions for the creation of alternative and sustainable jobs in these regions in a timely manner. In the creation of a favourable environment to attract investors, we will finance the installation and development of infrastructure in the industrial areas and FEZs in these districts," said Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of the Economy and Innovation.
The municipal administrations of Akmenė, Jonava and Mažeikiai districts and the Akmenė Free Economic Zone are eligible to apply under this measure. Industrial park operators, FEZ management companies, institutions supported by municipal budgets, energy distribution or transmission operators and utility service providers are potential project partners.
"To promote sustainable investment in industrial areas, we will provide funding to municipalities for them to install and upgrade engineering networks and communications, engage in major repairs of the infrastructure, and build and reconstruct roads in industrial areas. These investments will pay off as they will improve the conditions for attracting investors who will create jobs for the population," said Iveta Paludnevičiūtė, Chancellor of the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation.
The Innovation Agency will accept applications until 16 October of this year. The detailed terms and conditions of this call are available on the European Union’s investment website.
Of the €1 billion plan for the economy, €165.2 million is earmarked from the Just Transition Fund for the industrial transition towards a climate-neutral economy, granting another €97.6 million for sustainable job creation by investing in the creation and development of industrial sites and attracting investors.
The measure "Improving the competitive environment for attracting investment" is being implemented under the Just Transition Fund of the European Union Funds Investment Programme for 2021-2027.
