“Looking at the geopolitical context and in order to ensure synergies between NATO and EU defence policy, we, together with six other like-minded states – Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia, emphasise the need to find additional funds for investment in military mobility when reviewing the EU’s multiannual financial perspective. For the countries, in particular, of the eastern flank, the development of military mobility projects in the short term is vital and plays an important role in ensuring the security of both the countries and the EU as a whole. At the same time, military mobility projects are also important in enabling the supply of military support to Ukraine. We hope that the political negotiations will lead to an agreement on the appropriate financing of this strategic priority “, noted Minister G. Skaistė.
At the same time, Minister G. Skaistė stressed that Lithuania supports a EUR 50 billion assistance programme for Ukraine proposed by the European Commission, which will ensure greater stability of financial assistance in the medium term, including guarantees and loans, and will provide interfaces with the country’s reform plan to move closer to the EU membership.
Ministers Ms Calviño and Ms Skaistė also discussed the review of the EU fiscal rules and the further process for the establishment of the EU Anti-Money Laundering Agency (AMLA).
