"Our priority is to strengthen existing and create new trade relations and investment opportunities in Lithuania. Last year, we successfully attracted a record amount of foreign investments to Lithuania, which are expected to create 5,000 jobs and invest EUR 134.5 million in fixed assets over the next three years. We are pleased that one of the largest American corporations, with revenues of more than EUR 23 billion last year, has been able to expand its business in Lithuania", said Minister of the Economy and Innovation after the meeting.
The meeting also discussed the proposal for a regulation on packaging and packaging waste, which is being initiated at European Union level. The Regulation aims to reduce waste, limit unnecessary packaging and promote the reuse and refilling of packaging.
The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation would ban certain forms of packaging, such as single-use packaging for food and drink consumed in restaurants and cafes, and single-use packaging for fruit and vegetables. The aim is to have appropriate systems in place by 2030.
The meeting was also attended by Serge Thines, McDonald's Senior Director of International Government Relations, and Vladimir Yanevski, McDonald's Managing Director for the Baltic States.
