"For the first year in a row, funding for the development of industrial areas for projects selected through a competitive bidding process not only contributes significantly to improving infrastructure, but also helps create new jobs and contributes to the growth of state and municipal budgets. Municipalities estimate that the full implementation of these projects will create almost 8,000 jobs and attract almost €695 million in investment," said Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of the Economy and Innovation.
The infrastructure projects for which funding has been allocated will be implemented by the municipalities of Kaišiadorys District, Šiauliai City, Kaunas District, Klaipėda City, Kėdainiai District, Marijampolė District and Ukmergė District.
The funds are allocated for the implementation of projects to connect the Šiauliai Free Economic Zone (FEZ) and the Šiauliai Industrial Park to the railway infrastructure, to develop the infrastructure of the Kaunas FEZ, to develop the engineering infrastructure in Kėdainiai, which is important for business, to build infrastructure up to the investment land plot in Kaišiadorys, to build a parking lot in Marijampolė, and to build communications in Ukmergė, among other works.
"Out of 23 applications, the first 8 highest-scoring applications were selected through a competitive selection process. Priority was given to those projects that will create new profitable jobs and attract investment," said Karolis Žemaitis, Deputy Minister of the Economy and Innovation.
Last year, Ministry of the Economy and Innovation distributed more than €10 million to 17 municipalities for infrastructure projects.
