Baltraitiene met with Belarusian Minister of Agriculture and Food Leonid Zajac to discuss the effects of Russian embargo, tighter cooperation capabilities and more active bilateral trade in agricultural and food products.
Trade with Belarus constitutes an important part of Lithuanian foreign trade in agricultural and food products. In 2013, export of agricultural and food products to Belarus stood at EUR 180 million, i.e. 3.8% of the total agricultural and food products' export. Belarus was 8th among 134 export partners.
Import from Belarus reached EUR 70 million, i.e. 1.9% of the total import of such products. Belarus was 13th among 109 Lithuania's import partners.
Export surpassed import by 2.6 times. Goods of Lithuanian origin constituted 22.9%, export of such products increased 2.6 times since 2009. In 2013, compared with 2012, export of agricultural and food products grew by 1.6 times and import increased by 1.3 times.
