This will mainly consist of equipment for the repair of electricity substations and gas pipelines, power generators, and fuel. As for the heating sector, the support includes welding equipment, batteries, valves and fire extinguishers.
“Russia is deliberately destroying Ukraine’s energy infrastructure: to our knowledge, 40 per cent of the infrastructure is damaged, which is more than 400 critical facilities across Ukraine,” says Minister of Energy Dainius Kreivys. “Lithuania is one of the few countries where Soviet-era equipment used in Ukraine’s energy sector can still be found, so since the beginning of the war we have been in constant contact with our Ukrainian colleagues and have been organising the delivery of support according to the needs of the Ukrainians.” According to Mr. Kreivys, Lithuanian energy companies are very active in mobilising and cooperating with each other, and private organisations or groups of individuals are also contributing to the process of gathering the necessary support.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 12 generators of various capacities have been transferred, over 130 tonnes of fuel have been transported, and most of the 550 tonnes of foam for fire extinguishing have been delivered. Transportation of 250 transformers and 160 generators of various capacities is currently being organised.
The employees of Lithuanian energy companies also contribute personally by hosting Ukrenergo employees and their families, finding accommodation, jobs and education institutions for them.
The Ministry of Energy extends gratitude to Ambergrid, IAE, Litgrid, ESO, Ignitis, Vilniaus Šilumos Tinklai, Kauno Energija and the Lithuanian District Heating Association for the support provided to the Ukrainians. In organising delivery of support, the energy companies have been cooperating with Blue Yellow.
