As stated by the Chief Executive Officer Marius Gelžinis, the aviation sector is in a state of rapid recovery. However, getting back to the pre-pandemic level and record-breaking aviation traffic will take at least one more year.
‘The financial state of the Lithuanian Airports saw a rapid recovery during the third quarter of this year; however, we are still obliged to adhere to a very rigid financial discipline and have to maintain the current pace of recovery, as well as remain competitive within the region. Nonetheless, signs of recovery within the aviation sector and constantly increasing demand and supply for different flight directions gives us high hopes for the future. We believe and hope to reach a stable budget in the next year’, says M. Gelžinis.
M. Gelžinis also believes that the positive financial gains during the third quarter of this year were actually the result of rapid recovery in the demand for flights and increasing number of passenger traffic at the Lithuanian Airports. As shown by the results of Lithuanian Airports calculations, the recovery pace of passenger traffic at Lithuanian Airports surpasses the average passenger traffic at European airports.
Compared to the third quarter of the year 2020, the income received from aviation operations almost doubled during the third quarter of this year: grew by 93 percent and reached more than 6.76 million EUR. Meanwhile, income from other operations, e.g., food establishments, commercial zones, office rent and other services provided within Lithuanian Airports increased by about a fifth and reached 3.53 million EUR.
