“It is absolutely necessary to accelerate the expansion of alternative fuels infrastructure in Europe. We support the idea that while looking for possibilities of using not only electricity, it is important to promote the use of hydrogen and synfuel technologies, assess the accessibility of vehicles powered by alternative fuels, the expansion of the charging infrastructure of such fuels and the needs of consumers. There are plans to develop the concept of hydrogen-powered transport in Lithuania, and Germany’s experience is essential for us,” said M. Skuodis during the meeting with the German Minister.
Germany is leading in the expansion of public hydrogen charging station network in the European Union – there are 92 such stations in the country already, and it will soon reach its goal of 100 hydrogen charging stations.
Germany’s experience is important to Lithuania for the implementation of the EU Directive on alternative fuels infrastructure as regards the planning and implementation of such expansion, the involvement of interested parties, etc. In May 2021, the Group of Hydrogen Application in Transport, formed by the Hydrogen Platform under the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania, initiated its activities. Its aim is to promote the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel in the transport sector together with other state institutions and business representatives.
The ministers of transport of both countries explored the IAA Mobility 2021 exhibition, the German counterpart presented the stands of his country's industrial companies, together the ministers observed innovative products and technologies. In turn, Minister of Transport and Communications M. Skuodis presented the stand of Lithuanian companies, which is being exhibited for the first time at the exhibition.
